Update

During the implementation and operationalization of Ecosystem Based Management, CFCI has re-committed to working within the Joint Solutions Project to ensure EBM is implemented in a manner consistent with the land use planning recommendations and the definition of EBM. In order to achieve this objective, an agreed set of benchmarks (including key activities and timelines) has been developed and is being worked on together over the next five years until March 31st 2014 when the goals associated with full implementation of EBM have been reached.

Projects

Ecosystem-Based Management — CFCI and RSP are jointly working toward full implementation of EBM within the Central and North Coast regions of British Columbia. They have developed a workplan including periodic progress assessments.

Background

CFCI has retained biologists, ecologists and geotechnical specialists to help in developing methods and guidance for EBM implementation as many of the EBM elements are theoretical in nature and are challenging to implement in practice. The tools, documents and presentations found in the EBM Implementation section of the website represent the work completed up until the Spring of 2006. Work will continue, with new materials and guidance provided in 2007
